Shanae Watson | The Voice Australia
Shanae Watson is an Australian singer from Melbourne, Victoria. She was a contestant on The Voice Australia Season 12 in 2023.
She is 21 years old.
Shanae grew up listening to her father sing.
Inspired by him, Shanae joined Whittlesea Primary School’s choir and continued her passion through to Whittlesea Secondary College, singing in assemblies and productions.
Shanae then began auditioning for other projects without success.
Surprisingly, she did not originally apply for The Voice Australia Season 12, but after the coaches heard her father Chris Watson‘s reason for auditioning, they requested The Voice Australia producers to allow her to audition.
After hearing and being inspired by her father’s brave performance, Shanae received the producers’ approval to audition.
She then decided to take a leap of faith declaring: “I can’t give up this opportunity. I really owe it to my Dad.”
“I said to my dad at one stage ‘Nope I don’t want to sing anymore’,” Shanae said.
“But then we did this and it brought back that spark.
“It was really inspiring to be honest to see Dad perform because I know he loves singing as well, so to see him go and do it really did just light that fire for me.
“To know he was doing it to show me not to give up like that meant even more to me. He’s a great inspiration.”
For her Blind Audition, Shanae performed “Chandelier” by Sia.
As a reward for her astonishing performance, she received four chair turns from the coaches (Guy Sebastian, Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, and Jessica Mauboy) and a standing ovation from the audience and coaches.
Shanae joined Team Guy.
