Idols SA 2018 Top 16 Contestants

Meet your Idols SA Season 14 Top 16 Contestants, they were announced on Sunday 19 August 2018.

They came, they saw and they conquered. Their journey was nothing short of incredible, they phased spectacular twists and turns along the way yet through it all they all managed to stand tall.

And now here they are! Mzansi, below are your Season 14 Idols.

Basimane Melato “King B”

Bubbly and with a personality just as big as his voice, King B has some seriously powerful pipes and he’s not afraid to use them.

The jazz-loving singer is determined to leave his mark on the industry and be remembered as one of the most unique acts to ever emerge out of Mzansi.

Lincoln Lewis

Western Cape’s Lincoln has always been a hustler and a go-getter but now his sights are firmly set on conquering the 14th season of Idols South Africa.

It’s almost hard to believe the young singer almost didn’t attend the auditions if his cousin hadn’t made him go. It’s push that certainly paid off!

Mnqobi Dlamini

The sultry-voiced Mnqobi lives and breathes music. Before entering Idols he plied his trade as a performer in and around his hometown of Piet Retief in Mpumalanga.

And the one thing he simply can’t wait to do on stage is dance! We can’t wait to see him unleash those moves.

Mthokozisi Ngcobo

Aspiring entrepreneur and student of accounting student Mthokozisi swapped out the finance ledgers for live stages and his true passion, singing!

It’s a bold move that paid off more than he could have ever imagined as he firmly secured his place in the Top 16 to sing for your votes with rousing performances. Now it’s time to make Umlazi proud!

Niyaaz Arendse

Independent artist and songwriter Niyaaz may have had his fair share of challenges in the music industry but that didn’t slow him down. Which is likely why the Western Capetonian had no trouble landing his spot in the Top 16. And now the 22-year-old can’t wait to show off a few more tricks he has stored up his sleeves.

Sandile Skosana

The cool crooning Sandile took a second shot at fame courtesy of Unathi by both hands and used the lifeline as an opportunity to dig deep and remind the judges why he was worthy of a Top 16 spot.

Now he’s singing for your votes and eager to colour his performances with his spectacular guitar skills as well.

Thato Makape

Hailing from a little-known small town Postmasburg, Thatho traveled a remarkable 14 hours to his Cape Town auditions.

The arduous trek paid off though as the former barber found himself sailing through the duets and solos to firmly cement his place in the Top 16.

Follow him as he sets out on his next big journey; making the people of Postsmasburg proud!

Victor Matalane

From the pulpit to the packed performances, Victor almost didn’t make it to the solos let alone the Top 16.

But the singing star’s talent caught the ear of Unathi who felt he was worthy of a second shot.

It’s an opportunity that he made the most of and went on to erase any doubt in his capabilities.

Bongiwe Mdaka

Cool, calm, and collected. Is easy going and every-smiling Bongiwe wowed the judges from the first note and has been blowing them away ever since.

Now with her Top 16 place in the bag, the 23-year-old is ready to take things up a notch and show just how much she wants to win big!

Dalene Swartz

It comes as no surprise that Dalene’s favorite singer is former Idols contestant and Top 16 alumni, Shekhinah.

The BCom student is also no stranger to bright lights as she previously worked as a part-time performer around Johannesburg. Her focus though is now squarely on winning Mzansi over with her voice of gold.

Nosipho Silinda

The youthful Nosipho is not only a student, she’s also proved to be a scholar of the game as well. Having grown from strength to strength since her nerve-riddled Durban audition, she blossomed into one of the season’s youngest breakout stars. It’s now up to the 16-year-old to see if she can push the needle even further to win your votes.

Ntokozo Makhathini

Velvet-voiced Ntokozo comes with one of the most uniquely crafted voices of the season and the personality to match.

The Lauryn Hill lover is eager to show off the dance moves she’s been keeping safely tucked away and now she has the perfect stage to unleash them on.

Thando Mngomezulu

Incredibly shy yet just as phenomenally talented, Thando had to dig deep to come out of her shell and reveal what lay within to the judges.

What was nestled inside the timid media practices scholar was a voice that gave the judges little doubt that she was worthy of a Top 16 spot and singing for South Africa’s votes.

Lethabo Ramatsui “Wattahmelon”

She’s just as unique as her nom de plume would suggest. Arts and performance have always been a part of Wattahmelon’s life and so taking on Idols was a near-natural transition for the eclectic starlet.

It’s now time though for her to bring that larger-than-life personality to the bright lights of live performances!

Zamagambu Memela “Xae”

Even though Randall was ready to grant her a straight pass to Theatre Week, 19-year-old Xae proved she needed no favors and had unquestionable talent.

Thanks to flawless performances at auditions, duets, and solos, the hospitality student easily claimed her spot in the Top 16.

Yanga Sobetwa

The youngest contestant but by no means the least talented, Yanga came with a mission and a plan from day one.

She put her album on hold to work on building her brand first and with a remarkable voice beyond her years, she’s well on her way to being just as big as a star as she’s always planned to be.
