Thami Shobede Has Passed Away

Former Idols SA contestant Thami Shobede passed away at the age of 31 years, he was a gentle soul, full of promise, and undeniably talented.

Idols SA season 12 runner-up Thami Shobede has died

Thami passed away on September, 12th 2019 at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria on Thursday morning after suffering from an illness and complications.

We have come to learn that Shobede was admitted to the hospital after collapsing when performing on stage at the weekend, a source close to Shobede told Sowetan that his organs failed and he slipped into a coma on Tuesday.

Thami’s record label Gallo Records confirmed his tragic death and released a press release that you can read below.

Gallo Record Company is extremely saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of one of our artists Simphiwe Thamsanqa Shobede, fondly know as Thami.
It came to our attention this morning that he was in hospital suffering from an illness and complications. His family went to see him in Atteridgeville hospital, where he passed away some time just before noon this morning, Thursday 12th September 2019.
The singer with the velvet voice and Season 12 Idols SA runner up was only 31 years of age. We don’t have any other specific details or facts at this time and kindly request that everybody please respect the wishes of Thami’s family who will be issuing a formal statement shortly.
Our condolences go out to all his friends and family. He will be sorely missed.

The South African Department of Arts & Culture also mourned the singer’s death by tweeting;

The entertainment industry has lost yet another incredibly talented musician after the untimely passing of Idols Top 2 Finalist, Thami Shobede. At only 31 years, he had captured many with his unique voice. We send our deepest sympathies to his loved ones.

Thami’s funeral arrangements are underway and will be announced soon however we kindly ask you all to respect the privacy of Thami’s family in this trying moment.
