Idols SA 2020 Durban Auditions

The Idols SA 2020 Durban auditions took place on Saturday, February, 22, 2020 at Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani + North Beach Amphitheatre.

Dr Tumi was invited as a guest judge, he is in fact more than a ‘spiritual doctor’ – he’s an actual doctor who’s been on the Covid–19 frontlines.

South African gospel singer, producer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Dr Tumi (real name Tumišang Makweya) was born and bred in Seshego, Limpopo, and could be described as a ‘spiritual music doctor’. But there’s more to his title “Dr” than meets the eye: Dr Tumi earned his title after spending six years studying medicine a the Medical University of Southern Africa.

And he’s been using this training during lockdown, volunteering at Tembisa Hospital’s specialised Covid-19 unit! He stepped away for a day to officiate idols SA Durban auditions.

Dr Tumi has had some experience on reality singing shows as he performed with the Idols SA Top 10 last season ( Season 15 ).

One of the things we can recall from the Durban auditions of Idols SA season 16 is that the Durban hopefuls found our guest judge, Dr Tumi very intimidating.

Judge Randall Abrahams was also his charming self, something that angered some of the locals, but of course not everyone was crazy as we got to witness some very talented young people sing for our judges

The Idols SA 2020 Durban auditions were then televised on Sunday, August 23, 2020, on Mzansi magic at 17:30.
