About us

GIBB, a top South African engineering consulting firm, provides its clients with planning; design, and management services throughout the engineering consultancy spectrum. The South African employee-owned entity has been in operation since 1956 and is 67% black-owned. Its subsidiaries include GIBB (Pty) Ltd, ACE GIBB, GIH Limited, Arcus GIBB Nigeria, and SVA International (Pty) Ltd.

GIBB has worked for many big-name clients, including the City of Cape Town, OR Tambo District Municipality, Rand Water, Transnet, Sanral, and Eskom. They have impressively executed projects across the African continent.

Who receives the Bursary?

Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards a Civil Engineering Degree (Undergraduate, Honours, or Master), specialising in Civil Engineering, Rail, and Roads.

GIBB is seeking young talented students, who have the potential to become experts in the industry.

About our expenses and selection process

The bursary will cover the following expenses: tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, travel costs, and accommodation, where applicable. Students will also have the opportunity to partake in vacation work, and complete practical training, as required by the university.

After graduation, bursary recipients will be required to work at any GIBB office in South Africa.

Bursaries are renewable each year based on the student’s academic results, which should remain above the 60% average.

Requirements you need for GIBB bursaries

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to meet all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying full-time towards a Civil Engineering Degree, specialising in Civil Engineering, Rail and Roads
  • You must be entering your 2nd or higher year of undergraduate study, or Honours or Masters, in 2023
  • You must be studying at any recognised university in South Africa
